Welcome.

This site explores issues in information technology and project management. What started as a technology blog has morphed into a website covering my areas of professional interest and research - I guess this website is in lieu of writing a book, and you get the opportunity to watch the chapters develop. Topic areas are:

• Project management,

• Quality systems and business improvement,

• Information technology management (working on this 'chapter' now),

• Information systems security.

This website is a personal project of Edward Hall - a cybersecurity and business professional based near Wellington, New Zealand. I have a special interest in management systems and business improvement methods, and look to apply these to project and information security areas. I am currently working as a security consultant in Wellington, New Zealand. Further information on me can be found on my resume page.

The purpose of this site is to provide a source of useful and practical information on management systems, and how systems thinking can assist in the pursuit of quality and business excellence in areas such as project management, information systems, and information systems security. Much of this site is still under development, so the material is being regularly updated as time permits - watch this space. Writing this website is a way of giving me a structured approach to reviewing the topics that have interested me in my professional career or research.

Fiber Optic Cable Systems

For the first 15 years of my career I was in technical specialist and consultant roles. I worked as a optical fiber cable systems specialist, providing expert advice and training on everything associated with optical fibers as used in telecommunication networks. My old fiber optic tutorial pages were originally started to be developed in 1995 for those interested in learning about optical fibre, and at the time was one of the earlier websites covering optical fibre from a telecommunications field perspective. These pages went through a number of updates through the 90's and early 2000's. Some of these earlier pages are here along with some updated material.
